About Lingden
Our Mission
Lingden exists because we believe language learning should be rooted in real context — not isolated vocabulary lists. We build tools that help you learn words inside the sentences where they naturally live, so they stick in your memory and you can actually use them.
Our name comes from combining "Ling" (language/linguistics) and "den" (a cozy place) — a cozy place for language learning.
How It Works
Lingden uses spaced repetition — a scientifically proven method where you review material at increasing intervals. Each flashcard shows a word in a real sentence with:
- Word-by-word breakdown — See the meaning of every word in the sentence
- IPA pronunciation — Know exactly how to say each word
- Audio playback — Hear native pronunciation
- Grammar notes — Understand why the sentence is structured the way it is
- CEFR levels — Content organized from beginner (A1) to upper-intermediate (B2)
Why Context Matters
Research in cognitive science consistently shows that learning words in isolation leads to poor retention and inability to use them in conversation. When you learn a word inside a meaningful sentence, your brain creates richer memory connections — linking the word to grammar patterns, surrounding words, and real-world meaning.
That's why every card in Lingden is built around a real sentence. You don't just memorize "house = casa" — you learn "Vivo en una casa pequeña" and understand every piece of it.
